This page has information about the Bonded Medical Places (BMP) Scheme for participants who joined between 2016 and 2018. Participants entering the BMP Scheme in 2019 will enter the scheme under the existing arrangements.
Since the 2016 academic year, 28.5 per cent of all first year Commonwealth Supported Places (CSP) in Australian medical schools are expected to be bonded through the Bonded Medical Place (BMP) Scheme.
In exchange, following successful completion of the medical course, participants agree to work in an eligible location in Australia for a total of 12 months, within five (5) years of attaining fellowship.
The eligibility of a location for this return of service period depends on the training and qualifications you have when you choose to complete it. Eligible locations are defined by the Modified Monash Model (MMM) or Districts of Workforce Shortage (DWS) classification systems.
